The Koestler Parapsychology Unit (KPU) is a semi-formal grouping of researchers and postgraduate students engaged in research related to 'the capacity attributed to some individuals to interact with their environment by means other than the recognised sensorimotor channels'. Our research combines three different approaches: researching areas which, for whatever reason, are considered to be anomalous; the nature of beliefs in these areas, and looking at instances where human communication appears to extend beyond the established boundaries. Such an approach covers parapsychological phenomena but will also allow consideration of other areas that may be important, e.g. perception without awareness, paranormal beliefs, biomagnetic interactions, misattribution and deception, psychopathology and volitional competence in exceptional performance. This approach thus represents a uniquely interdisciplinary framework that is often lacking both in parapsychology and in more mainstream disciplines.
