MSc in Psychological Research
Overview
This one-year taught programme provides a comprehensive training in psychological research methods and techniques. The programme teaching team draws from our pool of world-class researchers in Psychology and gives students access to a vibrant and stimulating research culture.
The programme provides a thorough grounding in research methods and analysis across the whole range of psychology sub-disciplines and meets the needs of those seeking preparation to pursue a research orientated career in a non-academic setting as well as providing the foundations of a Doctoral (PhD) programme.
The programme is intended for graduate psychologists or those who have studied or worked in related disciplines who wish to pursue a research-orientated career within psychology.
Programme content
All students take the core methodology courses covering topics which include: Univariate and Multivariate Statistical methods, Professional and Generic Research Skills, Research Concepts and Design, Working with Specialist Psycholgical Data and Current Topics in Psycholgical Research. They also choose from a wide-ranging list of option courses to tailor the course to a particular area of interest such as Social or Developmental Psychology or Parapsychology.
In addition to the taught courses, students complete a research dissertation normally involving original empirical research. Supervisors are normally chosen from staff within Psychology and topic is negotiated between staff and student.
