Psychology Building

Psychology is located in George Square, in the heart of Edinburgh. It consists of some 35 academic staff, 35 research staff, 80 postgraduate students, and 700 undergraduate students. Research in the department focuses on human cognitive neuroscience, individual differences and health, language and communication, and visual cognition. The research power of the department was ranked 9th in the UK and 1st in Scotland in the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise. The department has excellent facilities for both teaching and research, including a well-stocked library with dedicated librarian and advanced perception, cognition, and language laboratories. The department houses the MRC Centre for Cognitive Ageing and Cognitive Epidemiology, and the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Research Centre, collaborates with many other departments on campus and at other universities, and enjoys excellent relations with local research hospitals.
