How to set up VPN access to EdLan
VPN (Virtual Private Network) access to EdLan allows you to access University resources such as Microsoft shared folders from outside the University network.
You can access the University network using any public ISP (Internet Service Provider). For example from home, from a conference, or from an Internet cafe.
Note: It is currently not possible to use the VPN service from ResNET. This is because University policy states that external access from ResNET is via the web proxy only.
Two steps:
1. You have to register for the VPN service.
2. You have to install and configure a VPN client on your computer.
You can configure XP's own built-in VPN client, or install the recommended Cisco client for which the University
has a site license. Information on how to download the client is provided when you register for the VPN service.
Once you have registered for the service, and installed and configured the VPN client, you can
connect to Microsoft shared folders in the normal way just as if you were within EdLan.
